Winner 1960: Florian Mueller, Overture in G [See an example]

Biography: Florian Mueller was born in Bay City Michigan in 1904. He received his master's degree from the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, Illinois. He was solo oboist with the Chicago Symphony from 1930 to 1954, and he was a member of the University of Michigan Woodwind Quintet and Baroque Trio.

From 1940 to 1954, Mueller was Orchestra Conductor and Professor of Oboe and Theory at Central Y.M.C.A. College and Roosevelt University, Chicago. He then went on to become Professor of Music at the University of Michigan.

Mueller's compositions were played by the Chicago Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Interlochen Orchestra, St. Louis Little Symphony, University of Michigan Symphony Band, the United States Navy Band and others.
