Winner 1975: Robert Panerio, Jubiloso

Biography: Robert Panerio (b. 1929) has served for the past 32 years as adjudicator, clinician, soloist and conductor throughout the Pacific Northwest and Canada. Born and raised in Washington, Panerio received B.A. and M.A. degrees from Central Washington University and later pursued doctoral studies at the Eastman School of Music. He has studied composition and orchestration under Paul Creston, Eric Leidzen, John Alden, Rayburn Wright and Fred Karlin.

For many years, Mr. Panerio was a professional trumpeter in the symphonic, show and jazz fields. He still composes and arranges professionally for concert bands, orchestras, stage bands and studio ensembles. From 1953 to 1962 Panerio was Supervisor of Instrumental Music at Moses Lake, Washington. He then became Dean of Arts and Humanities at Big Bend College where he worked until 1963. Since 1963 he has been professor of music at Central Washington University as well as Visiting Professor of Music at Eastern Oregon State College in 1973.

A member of ASCAP and of the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors, Mr. Panerio has won several awards including Awards of Merit from the National Federation of Music Clubs and listings in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities (1953) and Who's Who in the West and Mid-West (1972).
