Winner 1987: David Sartor, Synergistic Parable

Biography: Tennessee composer David P. Sartor attended the Blair School of Music, the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory, and the University of Tennessee, where he studied composition with John Anthony Lennon and David Van Vactor and also pursued concentrations in conducting, percussion, and piano. His composition credits include multiple commissions, the National Fine Arts Award, and nine consecutive ASCAP awards. His works have received national exposure at the Tanglewood Music Festival, the Aspen Summer Music Festival, the International Double Bass Festival, the Percussive Arts Society National Convention and Carnegie Hall. He has appeared with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, the Middle Tennessee Symphony, the Vanderbilt Orchestra, the Knoxville Brass Choir, the Dogwood Arts Festival Chamber Orchestra, the Trevecca Symphony, and as Guest Composer at the Illinois State University Fine Arts Festival.

Mr. Sartor has been named to Who's Who in American Music and the International Who's Who in Music, and holds memberships in Phi Kappa Phi, Pi Kappa Lambda, the American Music Center, ASCAP, the American Federation of Musicians, the National Association of Composers USA, and the Society of Composers, Inc. His works are published by E.C. Schirmer, Shawnee Press and TRN Music.
