SCPA Recording AnnouncementSCPA is happy to announce the availability of the compact disc entitled: FOR THE RECORD
Recordings in the American Bandmasters Association Research Center in SCPA are rich sources of band history. On this CD, we have attempted to showcase recordings that highlight both the history of the ABA and the Research Center's holdings. We hope that listeners find the compilation enjoyable, but we also hope that it sparks ideas for scholarship, research, and teaching. Created with support from the American Bandmasters Association Foundation and the University of Maryland Bands as a welcome gift to members of the American Bandmasters Association attending the convention of the ABA in Baltimore and College Park March 3-8, 2003, a limited number of extra copies are now available to interested persons. To order, please send a check or money order made out to University of Maryland in the amount of US$5.00 for each CD you are ordering to: ABA Research Center CD, Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library, 2511 Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742-1630. The Project Manager for the ABA Research is Patrick Warfield, who compiled this compact disc and wrote the notes. We would like to thank Donald Manildi, Curator of the International Piano Archives at Maryland, for his technical assistance, excellent ear, and time. The information in the booklet of notes accompanying the CD comes from collections in the ABA Research Center and from William Rehrig, The Heritage Encyclopedia of Band Music: Composers and Their Music, ed. Paul Bierley (Westerville, OH: Integrity Press, 1991). Production and distribution of this recording were supported by the University of Maryland Libraries, the American Bandmasters Association Foundation, and the University of Maryland Bands, John Wakefield, Director. Performing Arts Library Manager for Special Collections, Technology, and Outreach Vin Novara shepherded the CD into production and formatted the booklet of notes. ABA Research Center Project Assistant Bradley Mariska assisted. Tittles of excerpts on this 68-minute recording are: 1. Victor Herbert (1859-1924), Baltimore Centennial March (ca. 1897)
