Dr. Robertson advises national and international organizations on cultural policy in the arts. She has written on a wide range of topics, including social rituals and shamanic practice among the Mapuche Indians of Argentina; the concept of artistry and the process of composition among the Kassena-Nankani of northern Ghana; the embodiment of gender in Hawaiian chant and dance; and the effect of sound on physiology. A former President of the Society for Ethnomusicology, Professor Robertson has taught at the Instituto Nacional de Antropología in Buenos Aires, Columbia University, the University of Pittsburgh, and Tuskeegee Institute.
