Researching Roy Orbison

An Exhibition of Materials from the Hugo Keesing Collection
An Introduction to Primary Source Research Techniques

November 2008 - November 2009

December 6, 2008 marks the twentieth anniversary of the death of Roy Orbison – one of American’s most distinctive singer-songwriters. To mark the occasion, the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library of the University of Maryland Libraries has created the gallery exhibition: Researching Roy Orbison. The exhibition also celebrates the Hugo Keesing Collection of Popular Music and Culture, as Dr. Keesing is a long-time fan and scholar of Orbison’s work.

The exhibition features Orbison materials from Dr. Keesing's collection in a way that encourages the viewer, especially students, to consider the objects' usefulness for research projects at an academic institution. The materials on display also outline the highs and lows of Orbison's music career that spanned over four decades.

Researching Roy Orbison is open during the regular hours of the Smith Library and will be on display until November 1, 2009.
