Performer & Scholar Collections

These collections consist of the papers of performers and scholars in music, theatre, and dance and may include manuscripts, criticism, scores, photographs, recordings and other archival materials.

  • Gillian B. Anderson Papers and Film Music Scores and Parts

    Professional files and scores of a contemporary conductor of silent film music.

  • Daniel Bonade Papers
    6 linear feet
    Written, photographic, recorded materials, reeds and reed cases, and personal items created or collected by Daniel Bonade. Brochures, programs and photographs of Maud Bonade La Charme, wife of Daniel. Programs, photographs and memorabilia of Louis and Esther Bonade, parents of Daniel, are also included.

  • Minas Christian Papers

    A small collection documenting the career of a conductor of the Evansville, Indiana Philharmonic Orchestra. Manuscript highlights of the collection are three signed, typed letters from Aaron Copland and two manuscript scores by Thurlow Lieurance.

  • Jacob Coopersmith Collection of Handeliana

    A personal research collection on the life and works of George Frideric Handel (1685-1759). The collection comprises books about Handel; 18th-, 19th-, and 20th-century published scores; manuscripts; librettos; photocopies of Handel documents; and hundreds of articles related to Handel and his music.

  • Charles Fowler Papers

    Papers of the late innovator in arts and music education and internationally recognized author.

  • Robert Gerle Collection
    6 linear feet
    Papers and scores of concert violinist, conductor, and teacher. Gerle graduated from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music and studied at the National Conservatory of Music. Taught at Peabody Institute in Baltimore and the Mannes College of Music in New York. Founder of the orchestra program at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC). Also taught at The Catholic University of America, conducted the Friday Morning Music Club, and served as musical director of the Washington Sinfonia.

    This collection makes available to UM's community of students, scholars, and visitors 75 digital videos spanning 35 years of Henson's groundbreaking work in television and film.

  • Marcia Herndon Papers

    Papers of the late notable UM ethnomusicologist.

  • Howe Collection of Musical Instrument Literature
    A collection of papers and memorabilia pertaining to the history of mechanical musical instruments.

  • Keesing Collection on Popular Music and Culture
    3000+ cataloged books; 175 linear feet of papers and serials concerning popular music and popular culture; 50 linear feet of uncataloged recordings and sheet music.

  • Liz Lerman Dance Exchange Archives
    The collection consists of the administrative materials of correspondence, reports, meeting materials, pamphlets, notes, publications, and statistics; the production materials of photographs, playbills, flyers, press kits, and contextual information; memorabilia; and video and audio cassettes, all of which relate to the activities and functions of the company.

  • Irving and Margery Morgan Lowens Collection
    105 linear feet.
    Contains the papers of Irving Lowens, music critic for the Washington Star and American musicologist. Included are correspondence, article and clipping files, subject files, and research notes for Mr. Lowens's publications.

  • Alice Parker Papers

    Ongoing receipt of scores, recordings, and professional papers of prominent composer and choral conductor Alice Parker.

  • Jerry Pierce Papers

    Scores, recordings, education materials, and professional papers for professional clarinetist and co-founder of the International Clarinet Association.

  • Clara Rockmore Collection

  • Madeleine Bartfeld Sigel Collection of Performing Arts Autographs and Memorabilia
