Theatre Fundamentals: Deciphering the Catalog
Here is the catalog "record" or information for one of the CORE books you will be using:
Using the Theatre and Playhouse title, here are the answers to the questions:
Which UMCP library/libraries own the book?: Performing Arts? McKeldin? Art? Architecture?
What is the shelf location?: Stacks? Folio? Reference? Microfilm? Microfiche?
What is the Call Number?
What is the Availability? Is it checked out? On the shelf?

What do you do when all the UMCP copies are checked out?
1. Look at the availability for the book: Costume History and Style by Douglas Russell.

When UMCP copies are checked out, and there are other owning libraries, you can request the book from another library by clicking on the link.
Sign in with your barcode and last name, choose a library to pick up the book. The book will then be sent to the College Park campus.
HINT: choose to pick up the book at McKeldin Library and you will receive it faster. To track the progress, sign in and check your account and see if the book is ready to be picked up.
|
2. Look at the availability for the book: The Globe Theatre Project: Shakespeare and authenticity by Rob Conkie.
When UMCP copies are checked out, and there are no other owning libraries, you can use the link, but instead of the book being sent from another library, the person who currently has the book out will receive a recall notice and the due date will be shortened.
|
The BIG DIFFERENCE is that if another library within the system has the book, it only takes about a week to receive it. If there are no other copies, it will take longer, about 2 weeks to receive it back from the person who has it checked out.
The Moral of these scenerios?
Plan ahead, otherwise the book might not be available in time for you.
