Theatre Fundamentals: Known Citations

As you conduct your research, you will need to make note of the additional resources (book, book chapter, journal article) you identify in the bibliographies, references, notes and footnotes of the sources you are using. The reason for this? Because this is one of the best ways to further your research.

1. A BOOK

A book citation looks like this:

Arnott, Peter D. Public and Performance in the Greek Theatre. London: Routledge, 1991.
You will then check the The Catalog under either the title - Public and Performance... or the author - Arnott, Peter

2. A CHAPTER IN A BOOK

A book chapter citation looks like this:

Kahrl, Stanley. "The Staging of Medieval English Plays" pp. 130-48 IN: Simon, Eckehard(ed.); The Theatre of Medieval Europe: New Research in Early Drama. Cambridge: Cambridge UP; 1993. (xxii, 311 pp.)

In order to locate this you will need to search the catalog under the title of the book (The Theatre of Medieval Europe) or the editor of the book (Eckehard) - NOT the author of the chapter (Kahrl) or the title of the chapter (The Staging...)

2. A JOURNAL CITATION

Journal Citations look like this:
Hasche, Christa. Through the Minefield of Ideologies: Brecht and the Staging of Mutter Courage und ihre Kinder. Modern Drama, 1999, Summer 42(2); 185-97

Corrigan, Robert W. The Sun Always Rises: Ibsen's Ghosts as Tragedy? Educational Theatre Journal, 1959; 11:172-180

The easiest way to determine if we own the article and the format availability is to use the Article Search Box on the Research Port page. This leads you to any available online full text, to the catalog (if we own it in print) or to interlibrary loan (no online full text available and we do not own the print journal or the year/s vol/s needed):
