Performing Arts Library named for Michelle Smith!

President Mote hosted a gathering on November 26 to celebrate the naming of the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library. Over a hundred guests enjoyed a reception in the special ambience of the Library as the President thanked Michelle Smith and her family for their generous patronage of the performing arts and libraries on this campus. Kristian Twombly, a doctoral student in music composition, delivered a student’s view of the pleasures of working and studying in the Smiths' newest namesake. The naming was in grateful recognition of a gift endowment to provide for the Library’s perpetual support.

Later, during dinner, Michelle Smith spoke eloquently of her commitment to the performing arts and learning. Dean of Libraries Charles Lowry spoke about how the Smith gift would help the Libraries keep its performing arts branch in the forefront. Bruce Wilson, Head of the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library, welcomed Ms. Smith’s leadership among the large group of library friends who have built the Library's collections and programs over the years.

It was a big sememster for Special Collections in Performing Arts!

Special Collections in Performing Arts (SCPA) had a busy and exciting Fall Semester! New collections at SCPA include the 20th Century Consort Score Collection, the Marsha Herndon Papers (a gift of Billy Talmadge), and the establishment of the American College Dance Festival Association Archives. The processing of the George Bryan Papers (theatre materials) is complete and an inventory is now available. The International Clarinet Association (ICA) provided financial support to update the popular online version of the ICA Research Center Score Collection Inventory. For more SCPA news, please visit the SCPA Spotlight.
