HOSTING SPECIAL-INTEREST WEB SITES
Criteria
- UM Libraries may consider hosting a Web site for an outside
professional group or organization if the proposed site has ongoing and significant relevance to the mission of the UM Libraries.
- The appropriate Director will verify the relevance and review the site for continued relevance at least once a year.
- The Web Services staff will assess the technical requirements of the proposed site and verify that the support needed will fall within
the conditions and restrictions described below.
Conditions and Restrictions
UM Libraries will host a site upon agreement of the following
conditions:
- A member of the Libraries' staff will maintain
the site.
- The site will be widely accessible and
will have no restrictions on usage.
For an agreed-on site, the following restrictions on support will apply:
- Each site will be allocated 10MB of space on the server.
- UM Libraries will provde only a minimal level of support.
- The editor of the Web site will enter files into a designated area in the server using Web Spinner.
Access will be restricted to these files.
- A Unix account will not be issued to the Web editor.
- Archiving, database creation and search engine services will not be provided.
- Authentication of users will not be provided.
Exceptions
The Library Executive Council (LEC) may make exceptions to any points of this policy.
