LIBRARY VOLUNTEERSThe University of Maryland Libraries has no formal program for volunteers. However, the Libraries recognize and welcome the contributions of individual service volunteers for activities such as library events and special collections' docents. Volunteers can also bring unique talents, such as foreign language skills, to the Libraries. Individual service volunteers who are interested in and have relevant skills to work with a particular collection or service should be carefully interviewed and screened by the appropriate supervisor and unit head. A clear, mutual understanding of the volunteer's responsibilities and schedule should be reached and put into writing. Included in this written agreement should be a statement indicating that the services of a volunteer can be discontinued at will. Retirees from the Libraries are welcome to volunteer, but not in the units, departments or teams in which they were employed. The Libraries will recognize satisfactory and/or exceptional service of individual service volunteers appropriately based on time and quality of service. ADMINISTRATIVE MEMO # 36Effective August 20, 1999Supercedes (Memo No. 36, June 8, 1999) Suggested revisions to any Administrative Memo should be addressed to the Assistant Dean for Administrative Services. . |
