Position Summary:
The Digital Technology and Interface Services Manager is responsible for leading and managing a team that is responsible for the overall development and support of end user Web applications and interfaces on the Libraries sites. Among these interfaces are the Libraries' Web site, gateways to licensed resources, the catalog, link resolver, and other discovery tools. DTIS also plays a role in the design and support for Web services for University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions (USMAI) Libraries. DTIS collaborates with other ITD teams, groups in the Libraries, the University Office of Information Technology and USMAI task groups. Working collaboratively with university, library and consortial colleagues and member institutions, provides expertise to deliver services in support of teaching, learning and research. The position requires a strong customer service attitude, collaborative approach to work, creative problem solving, continuous learning, and a commitment to diversity in the workplace.
Organizational Characteristics:
Reports to the Director of Information Technology & Technical Services. Works collaboratively with other ITD Teams, Library Teams, USMAI Task Groups, and University groups. The University of Maryland Libraries promotes a team based, collaborative, continuous learning environment. Managers serve on library and campus committees.
Principle Accountabilities:
- Manages the Digital Technology and Interface Services Team which is responsible for designing and administering the UM Libraries’ Web site, administering the USMAI web site, integrating user-centered design into the web development process, designing and supporting systems for discovery, and providing secure user authentication systems for Web-based services.

- Serves as a resource/consultant for library departments, teams and grant applications. Provides needs analysis and assessment: to define individual or departmental database applications, writing project proposals, functional requirements, and application design specifications.

- Co-chairs the Web Administration Committee, providing leadership in setting policy and advising other groups in the development of web pages.

- Collaborates with library and OIT groups on tool development to facilitate the integration of the Library’s digital technology with those of the University.

- Stays abreast of current trends in Information Technology through listservs and professional publications relevant to supported applications.
Interations:
Primary interactions include all teams within the Libraries’ Information Technology Division and Digital Collections and Research Office. Collaborate with Office of Information Technology and other University IT staff to facilitate the integration of the Library’s technology with those of the University and to communicate the Library’s networking needs.
Fiscal Responsibility
No direct responsibility for a budget. Responsible for proposing purchases for tools and other software, including purchase estimates and associated ongoing costs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree, and
- 5+ Years progressively responsible experience in Web Technologies, and
- Demonstrated understanding of user-centered design, and
- Experience planning, implementing, and managing Web projects, and
- Ability to learn and apply new technologies, and
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, and
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Desired:
- 2 Years experience as an IT manager
- Awareness of national trends in IT relating to higher education
- Successful experience in creating and managing organizational change
- Experience implementing a content management system
- Experience in library-specific technologies
