Mentoring Program
Overview of the Mentoring Relationship
The mentoring relationship and process has many dimensions for it serves as the most ancient and valued method of teaching and learning, encouraging, and nurturing an individual in their career and professional goals.
Although the Mentee initiates the mentoring relationship, the Mentor seeks to develop the relationship by leading, guiding, stimulating interest, providing support, counseling, teaching, coaching, and challenging within a framework of mutual trust and respect. The Mentee comes to the relationship with a desire to learn, and a motivation to grow. As a result, mentoring becomes a process of learning and growing for both the Mentor and Mentee.
By developing a relationship built on trust, respect, and support, the Mentor is able to make a difference in the Mentee's professional and personal growth and development.
The Mentoring Program of the University of Maryland Libraries will operate with an assurance of confidentiality between the Mentor and the Mentee.
