Reference Transaction Sampling

To ascertain the levels and patterns of reference transactions, the UM Libraries use Reference Transaction Sampling rather than daily tabulation. For for more details on this project, please refer to the Reference Transaction Sampling Web Page.

UM Libraries Survey

In the Fall the UM Libraries conduct a survey of all library users in order to assess how well the libraries are meeting users' needs. LARC and the MIS Department organized and reviewed the collected data and shared the survey results with library staff. To see some of the results, please refer to the UM Libraries Survey Results.

UM Libraries Statistics Inventory

The UM Libraries' MIS Department and LARC have developed an inventory of library data elements that are currently collected by UM Libraries. The inventory organizes the data elements according to the library department/unit that gathers the data element and includes the following information for each data element collected:

  • definition of data element
  • who collects the data
  • how the data are collected and frequency of data capture
  • how the data are used
  • who reports the data and where reported

UM Libraries Focus Groups

In the Spring Semester of 2000, the UM Libraries' MIS Department and 15 students from the College of Information Studies (LBSC 601) held several focus groups to assess how undergraduates use the library and to better understand how undergraduates conduct research. For more details on the this project, please refer to the project report.
