Outstanding Graduate Assistants—2002

Robert Koepke

Robert was recruited for the Monograph/Continuing Resources Team with a primary focus on authority work.  In an average month, he creates 64 new records for the national Name Authority Cooperative Program (NACO), initiates needed corrections to name access points in the UM online catalog, and has also proposed new Library of Congress Subject Headings through the national Subject Authority Cooperative Program (SACO).

Robert has great working relations throughout the Libraries, volunteering two hours a week during Rover season to PSD, representing graduate students on the Technical Services Staff Advisory Committee (TSSAC), and co-presenting a peer training session, “Bibliographic Resources”.  He processed masters theses at a critical time in the Rapid Cataloging Unit, his original cataloging of doctoral dissertations has helped Technical Services during a serious staff shortage, and his critique of cataloging training will benefit future novice catalogers.  He has a “can do” and is a pleasure to work with!

Clare Sebok

Clare has been the driving force behind a number of staff training initiatives during her tenure at the libraries.  After surveying the staff on their learning needs, she developed new computer and writing workshops, which have been well attended and greatly appreciated.   The excellent materials she prepared for these workshops are on the Libraries’ web site, so that Clare’s contribution will remain long after she graduates.  Clare also took the initiative in organizing a support system for her fellow GAs.   Clare has been an invaluable asset to the Libraries, and will be leaving a legacy of commitment to the needs of her colleagues.
