FOUR STAFF RECEIVE FIRST QUARTER

LEADERSHIP-INITIATIVE AWARDS

CONGRATULATIONS and a round of applause to our four recipients for the first quarter Leadership-Initiative awards! The winners are:

Robert Bratton - Cataloging Department

Cindy Larimer and Jean McEvoy - Architecture Library

Rebecca Wilson - Graphics Department

ROBERT BRATTON, Librarian I, Technical Services

In FY 2001, Robert and his graduate assistants contributed 203 new headings to the Library of Congress authority file, via the NACO AV Funnel Project.  This placed the University of Maryland Libraries 5th overall in the Funnel.  Robert is thus substantially building our national reputation for AV cataloging, and improving the quality of AV cataloging records in OCLC.  In addition, Robert has contributed to the TSD program review by serving on the Blue Ribbon Committee and now on the Transition Team.

TEAM AWARD

CINDY LARIMER, Library Technician II, Architecture Library

JEAN MCEVOY, Librarian II, Architecture Library, Public Services

This award is presented to Cindy and Jean for their leadership and initiative in coordinating with Architecture Professor Isabelle Gournay to incorporate the final project of honors students into the Architecture Library World's Fair Ephemeral and Graphic Collection Online Exhibition, demonstrating fully the value of cooperative efforts between teaching faculty and the Libraries.  This experience exemplifies innovative and creative solutions for integrating source material from Library Collections into the curriculum that these collections serve.

REBECCA WILSON, Coordinator, Graphics, Planning & Administrative Services

Rebecca received the award for her work on the "Big Glossy" brochure.  It was Rebecca's idea to develop one single high quality brochure that would represent all seven UM Libraries.  This brochure could then be used for everything from library instruction, to recruitment, to fundraising.  With support from the "Big Glossy" team for content, Rebecca made her artistic vision a reality.  The work that was required on her part to design and produce, edit, promote, and help prod staff to contribute to this brochure went beyond the responsibilities of her position, and was accomplished in spite of two floods and renovation-related moves, and while juggling many other projects.  The quality of work and keen visual sensibility that Rebecca brings to every project she undertakes is nowhere more evident than in this high-impact publication.

The Awards Committee thanks all of you for your continued participation and support.
