Haelim Allen, Manager, Marylandia Room, Collection Management and Special Collections

Building on the achievements of her predecessors, and making full use of her talents as an artist, Haelim has worked tirelessly to further improve the visual appeal of Library Matters. She has a keen sense of layout and an uncanny knack for finding the perfect graphic to enhance an article. She has worked with Photocopy Services and ITD to ensure that the best desktop publishing and printing technology available in the Libraries is put to use to produce Library Matters. Many members of the library staff have commented on the attractiveness of the publication, which is an important vehicle for enhancing a sense of common purpose in the Libraries.

Haelim has improved online access to the publication by adding “bookmarks” to the online version for easier navigation, and has added value to the online version by mounting “photo galleries” of important library events. She is a wonderfully gentle, cheerful and patient colleague who is totally unflappable, even in the face of a looming deadline. Haelim performs a minor miracle every time we publish an issue of Library Matters.

As chair of the Goodwill Committee, Sandy has generously given her time, creativity, and energy in support of events, including the summer cookout, October Luncheon, annual December craft and bake sale, and distribution of patriotic ribbons after September 11th. She inspires a changing cast of committee members to achieve the aims of the Goodwill Committee, to provide cards and gifts in times of joy and sorrow, refreshments for special events in the Libraries, and volunteer services that promote goodwill and improve morale among staff.
