Lending and Borrowing Through Interlibrary Loan

Horizontal Rule

The Libraries continued to provide outstanding interlibrary loan service as loan activity was up over last year, both in lending and borrowing. In addition, turnaround time was reduced from 11 to nine days. Almost 21,600 borrowing requests were initiated, representing a 10.2% increase over the previous year, and just under 47,000 lending requests were received, a slight increase over FY 97. The Libraries began subsidizing for faculty the fax delivery of articles not found in journals currently held. Articles from most of the journals requested are available by fax within 24 to 48 hours. The Libraries also implemented direct borrowing for graduate students, facilitating access to materials from regional research-oriented libraries which are members of the Chesapeake Information and Research Library Alliance (CIRLA).
