PRESS RELEASEFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Nevenka Zdravkovska College Park, MD – The 2009 year marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Library (EPSL) as a Patent and Trademark Depository Library. The United States Patent and Trademark Officer (USPTO) appointed the EPSL as a Patent and Trademark Depository Library on January 25, 1984. To mark this milestone, EPSL will host two events that are free and open to the public. An anniversary seminar will be held on March 4, 2009 from 2pm to 4 pm in the Math Building Room 1403. Interim Dean, Desider Vikor, and Patent Classification Specialist for the USPTO, Doug Salser, will both provide remarks at the event. Following the remarks, a lecture will be held and presented by Jim Miller and Bob Kackley, of the University of Maryland Libraries. The lecture is titled "Patent Searching: Making the Most of the Free Databases for Business, Engineering & Science Libraries." A reception with light refreshments will follow the lecture. In conjunction with the anniversary seminar, an exhibit will also be on display from February to May. The exhibit will be housed in the Math Building Room 1403. It is titled “Plant Patents. Collections at EPSL,” which features full color plant images. Those planning to attend the anniversary seminar event on March 4th are asked to RSVP no later than February 27, 2009 to mbeygo@umd.edu.
