PRESS RELEASELisa Wheeler, UM Libraries’ Staffer,
Lisa Wheeler, Administrative Assistant at the University of Maryland Libraries, College Park, has been recognized for her service to the Libraries and the University as one of two recipients of the 2003 Outstanding Administrative Professional Award. Sponsored by the UM President’s Commission on Women’s Issues, the award honors administrative support staff throughout the University. Lisa will receive her award on June 6th at the 2003 Professional Concepts Exchange Conference on campus. Criteria for the award include motivation, professionalism, problem-solving skills, and ability to work with all levels of the staff and public. The Administrative Professional Awards Committee felt Lisa met all of these criteria, noting she was chosen for the award because of her “dedication to the administrative support profession and her service to the University of Maryland.” After working in the private sector, Lisa came to the University of Maryland in 1994, working first in the Upward Bound program and later in the Dean’s office for the College of Computer, Mathematical and Physical Sciences. She joined the University Libraries in 2000 as a member of the Libraries’ Planning and Administrative Services Division. A native of Washington, DC who currently resides in Hyattsville,
