Wilson Heads Up Info Technology
Tom Wilson recently assumed the position of Director, Information Technology, for the University of Maryland, College Park, Libraries. Previously, he was the Head of Systems at the University of Houston (UH) Libraries where he managed the information technology needs of the main library and its branches and oversaw an integrated library system shared by three campuses of the UH System (8 libraries in all). In his new position at the UM Libraries, Wilson manages information technology systems and services for the UM Digital Library program, the 16 libraries of the University System of Maryland (USM) and Affiliated Institutions (USMAI), and the Maryland Digital Library for 51 institutions statewide. Currently Wilson is the Vice-President/President-Elect of the Library and Information Technology Association (LITA) of the American Library Association. He has been active in LITA for many years, most recently chairing the Publications Committee. Wilson has spoken and written substantially on information technology, and in 1998, published "The Systems Librarian: Designing Roles, Defining Skills." He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Ohio State University and a Masters in Information and Library Studies from the University of Michigan. ###
