Our Dedicated Staff
The Libraries were fortunate to have a talented, committed, and creative staff that vigorously engaged with change on all fronts during the year. Despite the uncertainties and ambiguities of a new organizational structure, a new service model, and other changes, the staff never wavered on their commitment to proivde high quality services to the faculty, students, and others in and out of the university community.
Fifteen staff received Leadership-Initiative Awards during the year. The recipients included Sonia Bernardo, Mary Dalto, Carleton Jackson, Donna King, Alesia Wilson, Lynne Woodruff, Jeanne Baker, Karen Fishman, Sarah Frazer, Ethel Hellman, Tina Rice, Terry Sayler, Cynthia Sorrell, Mark Wilkerson, and Judy Cathey. Outstanding Employee Awards were presented to Evelyn Yocco and Margaret Cunningham, Outstanding Graduate Assistant Award to Katherine Cowan, Mary Lou Cumberpatch and Michelle Kalech, and Outstanding Student Employee Awards to Michael Skipper and Sally Yancheski.
The Campus Personnel Services Department honored a number of library employees for their years of service to the University. The honorees included: Frances Hsu and Detlef Schlesiger, 30 years of service; Rebecca Nwude, Donna Owens, Rinette Redmond and Evelyn Yocco, 20 years; David Cooper, Sondra Lynch, Linda Sarigol, Deborah Stefany and Desider Vikor, 15 years; Juanita Jackson, Amrita Kaur, Donna King, Jean McEvoy, Jean Newland and Philip Vandermeer, 10 years; and Ruth Alvarez, Peter Armstrong, Anita Carrico, Antonina Contreras, Barbara Lay, Scott Leffler, Patricia Longenbach, Donald Manildi, Christine Morris-Sumlin, Nathaniel Park, Anthony Prosseda, Tara Scholtz, Mary Stevanus, Babusinh Thakore, Emmanuel Trueh, Denise Wright, Marlene Vikor and Jean Wu, five years of service.
Many other staff members, standouts in their fields, authored important works, provided advice and assistance, or served as faculty, not only on the campus but nationally and internationally as well. Staff authors included Frank Joseph Shulman, Anne Turkos and Bonnie Jo Dopp. Dean Lowry, Neal Kaske, Trudi Hahn, Anne Turkos, Martha Hooker, and Paula Hayes taught at the College of Library and Information Services, and Patricia Herron and Lily Griner conducted a credit course for the Latin American Studies Certificate Program. Others who taught on campus included Valerie Jean, Eric Lindquist, and Marietta Plank. Staff who served on panels or delivered papers at national and regional conferences, published articles, held office or committee assignments in professional societies or were involved in major consulting work included Yelena Luckert, Beth Alvarez, Lori Goetsch, Alesia McManus, Terry Ann Sayler, Sally Sims Stokes, Anita Carrico, Rebecca Nwude, Bonnie Jo Dopp, John Schalow, Yvonne Carignan, Sue Baughman, Linda Sarigol, Ann Masnik, Dan Newsome, Douglas McElrath, Arlene Klair, and Desider Vikor.
