Instructions For
the UM Libraries Reserve Request Form

Horizontal Rule

Please follow these steps:

  • COMPLETE PART A, INSTRUCTOR INFORMATION.

Please list the following information as completely as possible: instructor's name (BOTH first and last name, please), professor's barcode, campus address, home and campus telephone numbers, and Email address.

  • COMPLETE PART B, COURSE INFORMATION.

Please list the following information as completely as possible: semester for which request is needed, course (both the department code and course number--e.g., GVPT 505), and projected class size.

  • COMPLETE PART C, BIBLIOGRAPHIC INFORMATION:

    • 1. INDICATE CALL NUMBER for all materials owned by UM Libraries. This will speed the processing and will insure that we get the correct book. The best source for this information is the on-line catalog VICTORWeb. (Note: When looking at the on-line catalog, select books FROM THIS CAMPUS ONLY; other UM System libraries do not allow us to use their books for course reserves on this campus). You do not need to indicate a call number if you are requesting a book that UM does not own, or if you are requesting an article, or if you are placing your own copy of a book on reserve.

    • 2. INDICATE THE NUMBER OF COPIES WHICH ARE NEEDED OF EACH BOOK.

    • 3. SELECT THE DESIRED LOAN PERIOD from the menu options. The McKeldin Library Reserve Room offers a choice of two loan periods: 2 hours or 24 hours.

    • 3.& 4. INDICATE AUTHOR(S) AND TITLE. Be sure that the information matches the citation that you indicated on the syllabus that your students will use.

      (l) 5. SPECIFY PUBLISHER for books not owned by UM Libraries.

      OR

SPECIFY JOURNAL CITATION (i.e. Journal title, author/title of article, volume and part or number, date, page numbers) of articles which are to be placed on reserve. This will enable us to process your request, and to replace missing pages if the copied article is vandalized.

    • 6. INDICATE YEAR or EDITION (i.e., "1992" or "third edition"), if you wish a specific edition. In order to meet your reserve requests as quickly as possible, we will fill your requests by selecting those copies of the item which are most readily available in the UM Libraries, regardless of edition; however, if you do indicate that you prefer a specifc edition, we will obtain it. Please be aware that the requesting of a specific edition may delay the filling of your request in those instances when the users have checked out all copies of your specified edition, or when the UM Libraries does not own that edition and must order it.

Whenever we must order a book for you, we automatically order the most recent edition available.

    • 7. Let us know if YOU WILL BE SUPPLYING THE ITEM.
