Self-Checkout
Prefer to avoid lines? Like to save time? Try out the Libraries' self-checkout machines!
LOCATIONS
The Libraries provide self-checkout machines at two locations: McKeldin Library and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Library.
ID CARD REQUIREMENTS
The self-checkout machines will work with most university ID cards. Cards must have machine-readable barcodes. If the barcode has faded or does not scan in the self-checkout machine, you may need to replace your card. Please stop by a circulation desk to verify.
INSTRUCTIONS
Detailed instructions with pictures are attached to each machine. All you need is a working ID card and materials to check out.
TIPS
- Card not working? There may be a problem with the barcode. It could be either the number or the actual machine-readable barcode on the card (the ink wears or rubs off easily at times). Please take it to a circulation desk to determine the cause.
- Books not checking out? It could be the barcode on the book or a problem with the ID card. Remember to leave your ID card in the slot on the platform until ALL your items are checked out. Removing the ID completes your transaction.
- Setting the alarm off as you leave? Please come back and ask the circulation desk to verify the materials were checked out properly. Remember to position the book so that it is resting on the platform with the spine of the book FLUSH against the blue stripe.
- Renew your materials online through My Account in the Catalog.
If you have any questions or comments, contact Access Services or any circulation desk.
