Humanities Team minutes, August 1, 2005 Present: Pat Herron, Eric Lindquist (note taker), Yelena Luckert, Alan Mattlage 1. Announcements Eric reported news from the Information Literacy Team. He also alerted the team to the Reading Nancy Drew symposium he is helping to organize, which is scheduled for the afternoon of October 7 in Hornbake. Pat reported on a recent trip to the Library of Congress with members of the social sciences team. The visit was part of the effort to establish closer ties between the Libraries and the Library of Congress. A web page devoted to this effort will shortly appear on the Libraries web site. Pat also reported on an ALA/ACRL initiative to encourage sister relationships between U.S. and Mexican libraries. The UM Libraries already have a relationship with the Tec de Monterrey. UM librarians having made a number of visits there, that could easily fit into this program. At Alans suggestion, the team expressed its thanks to Pat and Yelena for all their good work on the recent chat and weekend reference proposals. Alan announced that the redirection of effort discussed in the Libraries leaders group was nearing completion. He also reported that Aleph should soon be able to produce lists of new books. Finally, he reported on progress on the disposition of reference CD-ROMS. 2. Relations with functional team leaders The team decided after discussion to try to arrange to have lunch with the functional team leaders in the fall. 3. Student worker hiring The team discussed current arrangements with student workers and future needs. The current student worker will continue in the fall semester. A second student worker will be hired if one or two members decide another is needed, especially for web projects. 4. Reference work allocations The team discussed reference work allocations in a general way but decided to postpone further discussion until fall schedules become available. 5. Future meetings Friday, August 26, at 11:00, the team will meet for September desk scheduling and for other matters that arise. If time permits, the team will begin discussing reference allocation. Monday, September 12, 2:00 to 3:30, the team will meet to discuss reference allocation.
