Printing from Your (Windows) Computer to a Library Printer

Scope: This guide explains how to use the UM Libraries' print system to print jobs sent from non-library computers running Windows operating systems (Windows XP, 2000, 95, 98, 98 second edition, 98 Plus, etc.) to library printers. This service allows students, faculty, and staff to send print jobs from anywhere on the campus network: laptops (wireless too), department/office computers, dorm room computers, etc.

Overview

After downloading the appropriate software (once only) for your operating system, you send your print job to the Libraries' print system where it sits in a queue. Within 4 hours, you go to a library print station, select your job from the queue, pay for it, and print it out.

You must print out the job within 4 hours of sending it or it will be dropped from the queue

If this is your first time printing (or photocopying) in the Libraries, you'll need to have one of the following to retrieve your print job:

Download/Install

  • Download the appropriate printer driver software: Windows 2000/XP
The Libraries' Pay-for-print system does not support Windows operating systems prior to 2000/XP. It supports the Windows Vista Operating System (32-bit). Windows Vista 64-bit is not supported at present. To determine which Vista operating system you have, do this:

    1. Click the Start button (windows logo in bottom-left corner)
    2. Click Control Panel
    3. Double-click System
    4. Vista bit-type will be displayed for System Type.

  • Close all programs except your internet browser.
  • Double click on the software you just downloaded: "Libraries Printers"
  • Click Install.
  • Click Finish.
