Maryland Map CollectionMuch of the material in the Marylandia and Rare Books Department cannot be copied by patrons. The staff will, however, make every effort to accommodate photocopy requests. Researchers should check with the staff before attempting to make copies. The standard charge for staff-produced copies is $0.25 per page. Requests for large numbers of copies (20+) or requests for oversized or color copies will incur an additional service charge.
Duplication of Baltimore News American photographs is permitted; however, copies are made only in accordance with the "fair use" provisions of U.S. copyright law. The UMCP Libraries do not hold copyright to any of the materials in the collection. Duplication may be done by Campus Photo Services, in which a copy negative and a print are made. The researcher must pay for the creation of both (unless a copy negative already exists); however, all negatives created become the property of the University of Maryland. Researchers can choose the print size and the number of copies. This service take approximately five working days, but a rush service is available at a higher cost. Duplication fees vary, and are subject to change without notice.
Photocopying is restricted and must be approved by the Curator or Assistant Curator. Researchers who wish to make copies from rare or special collections materials including books from the Katherine Anne Porter Library must notify the Maryland Room desk staff. EXCEPTION: Special Collections Reference books may be copied without prior approval.
Copying of maps is not permitted without approval of the Curator or Assistant Curator. In some cases, rare or fragile maps can only be duplicated by photography. Copies of oversized or colored maps is possible by special arrangement. For any further questions regarding photoduplication services and fees, please contact the Marylandia and Rare Books Department at (301) 405-9210. |
