Maryland CollectionThe Maryland Collection represents a variety of materials, including more than 60,000 books and periodicals about Maryland, current and historical. The University of Maryland is a legally designated depository of all Maryland state documents, and the collection contains a comprehensive set of Maryland state publications. The Department strives to obtain all published state documents, and receives many documents published by Maryland state agencies. The Maryland Collection contains more than 2,500 Maps of Maryland and the surrounding region as well. One of the most spectacular maps in the collection is the Bird’s Eye View of Baltimore published by Sachse in 1869, measuring approximately 12 feet in length by 6 feet in height. Included in this collection is the first map to show the Chesapeake Bay, published in 1590. Sanborn Fire Insurance maps for Maryland are part of this collection, as well as many maps produced by state and local governments.
The Baltimore News American Photograph Collection is also found in the Maryland Collection, as are many Maryland newspapers. Email a subject area specialist or call (301) 405-9210 for more information. To view our most recent additions to the Maryland Collection, click here. | ||
