Maurice Annenberg (1907-1979) was a noted Baltimore printer and typography historian. He was born in Scranton, PA, and was raised in Baltimore, MD. Annenberg established the Maran Printing Company in Baltimore in 1928. He was also the editor and publisher of "Type Talk," a company magazine. Maurice Annenberg was the author of Advertising, 3000 B.C.-1900 A.D. (1969), Type Foundries and Their Catalogues (1975), and A Typographic Journey Through the Inland Printer, 1883-1900 (1977). His life's work was honored by the American Printing History Association, which selected him for its 1979 award for individual merit.
The Maurice Annenberg Collection consists of Mr. Annenberg's personal library, which supported his interest in typography and the history of the printed book. The collection contains his reference books pertaining to typography, publishing, and the history of the book; a collection of periodicals pertaining to printing, publishing and bibliography; and a large collection of type foundry catalogs. Also included in this collection are printing and paper samples. The collection was given to the University of Maryland in 1980 by Mrs. Maurice Annenberg.

Items in the Maurice Annenberg Collection are non-circulating. Researchers may view the collection in the Maryland Room on the first floor of Hornbake Library North. For use of this collection during extended hours, all materials must be reserved in advance.
