Ralph D. Remley Collection

Remley Bookplate

Ralph D. Remley was a hobby printer who served as a docent for the Smithsonian's Department of Graphic Arts. He also did volunteer work for the University of Maryland Libraries.

Each book in the collection has an R.D. Remley bookplate, identifying it as part of his collection. In addition, books from the collection can be searched by using "Remley Collection" as a keyword in the library's online catalog. For additional materials on the book arts, please consult the Maurice Annenberg Collection.


The Ralph D. Remley Collection contains over 1,500 books, serials, and ephemera pertaining to book production, binding, paper making, illustration, calligraphy, printing, publishing, selling, and collecting. Remley donated his collection to the University of Maryland at College Park over the course of several years, 1969-1987.

Items in the Ralph D. Remley Collection are non-circulating. Researchers may view the collection in the Maryland Room on the first floor of Hornbake Library North. Please contact us with any questions.
