1. The Vigor, Novelty, and Grace of W.A. Dwiggins: An exhibition celebrating the donation by Patricia Goldsmith England of her collection of the works of WAD to the University of Maryland College Park Library. November 14-December 21, 1990.
Catalogue of exhibition and case index cards - there were seven cases in the exhibition: The Designer, The Printer, Trade Editions, Americana, Orientalism, The Armageddon, and The Classics.
2. The Very Horrendous Life of the Great Gargantua (from Vol. 1) Loose specimen pages include title page, pp. vii, viii, author's prologue(pp. 5-6) pp. 13-16 and p. 128. See 36.10 for the finished set. Notes in pencil by unknown person, comparing specimen pages to finished text.
3. Blotters designed by Dwiggins for the Abbey Press and Gordon-Taylor, Inc. printers, Cambridge, Mass.
a) Sent to Mr. Paul A. Bennett of the Mergenthaler Linotype Co. (1937?). Blotters are in the original envelope, as mailed to Mr. Bennett. Done in vibrant purple and maroon to show how printer uses color.
b) Examples of two blotters sent by Dwiggins to Mr. Bennett; in original envelope (1937?). Also contains two pages of calendars designed by Dwiggins. Meant to show that "words still have to be read", as printed on folded green sheet. These are advertisements for printers.
4. Brochures and postcards from Püterschein-Hingham printers.
a) One postcard lists The Glistening Hill (50.04), To Autumn (51.08), and Twelve Poems (50.21) for sale, to be marked as to which one to be purchased and returned to P-H.
b) Second postcard from P-H to customer, Mr. Foss, that reads "Sorry, Hokusai all gone" (in Dwiggins' hand) with out of print stencil (decoration designed by Dwiggins) in Antwerp Blue.
c) P-H brochure of List No. III, of publications, Autumn 1951.
5. Specimen page from The Glistening Hill (50.04).
6. Letter dated January 12, 1932 addressed to Mr. Paul A. Bennett of the Mergenthaler Linotype Co. from Mr. George Macy, Director of The Limited Editions Club announcing the publication of Towards a Reform of Paper Currency (32.02) and requesting an order.
7. Handwritten letter dated June 27, 1937 addressed to Mr. Forgue from W.A. Dwiggins regarding a series of graphic arts monographs. Also discusses the progress of Dealing with Artists (41.07).
8. Letter dated April 14, 1939 addressed to A.W. Rushmore of the Golden Hind Press from C.H. Griffith of the Mergenthaler Linotype Co. concerning Dwiggins' new typeface "Caledonia."
9. Letterhead, bookplate, labels, and page samples (5) of Dwiggins' The Society of Calligraphers.
10. Nathan, Robert. One More Spring. A prospectus from the Overbrook Press, Stamford, Conn. [35.08]. Includes an order form for One More Spring and a check list and order form from The Overbrook Press. Includes envelope from Püterschein Press, sent to Mr. Foss in 1951.
11. The Cornhill Booklet. Vol. IV, no. 1, October 1914. Alfred Bartlett, Boston. Includes a loose leaf "supplement" with a Dwiggins illustration entitled "The Last War". Dwiggins also illustrated the cover page.
12. The Crew of the Ship "Earth". New York, The Typophiles, 1944. 1,500 copies printed. Text and illustration by Dwiggins. 8 pp. (2 copies). Folded and stapled. Printed in black. Dwiggins wrote this plea for peace in 1943.
13. Prospectus of "The Scribe" books printed by Archway Press. Includes a page for The History of Susanna hand-written and illustrated by Dwiggins (47.08).
14. Wells, H.G. The Treasure in the Forest (36.16). Announcement of publication. Includes a letter from "Mwano Masassi", artist of the work. Subscription blank included.
15. Letter dated Feb. 18, 1936 addressed to "Bill" about the publication of The Treasure in the Forest. Includes color stencil, done by Mabel Dwiggins.
16. The 1951 Feather-Vender Zodiac Calendar, designed by Dwiggins and printed by Herbert W. Simpson, Inc., Evansville, Indiana. Beautiful stenciled illustration for each month. Same design for each month with different colors used. Zodiac designs for each month in red included.
17. Announcement of publication of Fairfield: A Linotype Face (designed by Rudolph Ruzicka) with an essay on the work of Ruzicka by Dwiggins. Mergenthaler Linotype Co., Brooklyn. 1940
18. Letter dated June 13, 1985 addressed to Patricia England from Dorothy Abbe. Included is a sample of stationery (label of C.H. Griffith of The Mergenthaler Linotype Co.).
Advertisement (3" x 5" card) for Marionette in Motion (39.03). Yellow card, printed in blue.
20. A note about the cover of the three volumes of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (50.03), explaining the cameo and the initial "VR" on the cover of each of the volumes.
