SIRS MEETING
January 8, 2003

1). Weekend Staffing

    We decided that Saturdays would be:
      one librarian from 10 am--3 pm
      two librarians from noon--5 pm (single coverage in May)

    Sundays:
      two librarians from noon-5 pm (single in May)
      one librarian 5-9 pm

2). New Catalog

    We discussed our initial experiences. No great problems. We will
    keep the discussion going at future meetings.

3). Printing

    We discussed the question of what are or should be the
responsibilities of
    SIRS desk staff regarding printing. What kinds of support can we be
    expected to provide patrons? Problems arise with the dedicated WORD
terminal,
    with Powerpoint, with WebCT, with formatting disks, with allowing
patrons
    to use the terminals behind the desk, with the different levels of
    technical abilities of each of the desk staff.
    
    In general we feel staff should be able to provide support for
Library software
    but not be expected to support non-Library software. We need
training and
    guidelines so all desk staff can provide consistent support. We will
be working
    on this topic again.
