SIRS MINUTES OCTOBER 17, 2001 PRESENT: Sue Baughman (Guest), Bob Garber, Ross Laguerre, Glen Moreton, Barbara Nail-Chiwetalu (Facilitator), Yahaira Norris-Gonzalez (Note taker), Stanek (Timekeeper), Susanna Van Sant, Mary Winker, Evelyn Yocco. TOPIC 1: BEST PRACTICES AT REFERENCE DESK SIRS members gave Sue Baughman an overview of the "Guidelines for Best Practices at McKeldin Information Desk" and expressed concerns and practices that we would like addressed in the next TIP Meeting of November 8th. Outcome: Sue will return to the next meeting with her notes and ideas on preparation for the next TIP Meeting. TOPIC 2: DESK SCHEDULE FOR THANKSGIVING WEEKEND Outcome: We need three Librarians to volunteer for the following shifts: 10-2, 12-4, 12-4 on Friday, November 23rd. Last year we treated the Friday after Thanksgiving as a weekend shift and SIRS agreed that that was a good practice. Since Fall Weekend shifts have already been allocated, in order to compensate those who sign up for the 23rd, they can deduct 1 of their weekend shifts from the Spring Semester. Cindy Todd will send out a reminder. TOPIC 3: ATLAS TRANSFER SIRS discussed the next steps for transferring the atlases to GOV. DOCS. ** The Reference Desk has a General Atlas in their Quick Reference Section ** Outcome: Bob Garber, Lisa Russell and Susanna Van Sant will work on making a list of the titles that the Reference Area should keep and where they will go.
