Minutes for the SIRS meeting of November 13, 2002 Present: Garber, Laguerre, Mattlege, Roberts, Stefany (facilitating), Todd (recording), Yocco, Zeliff 1. Round Robin. Posting and distributing signs in the Library. Debbie reviewed the Library's policy on posting and distributing signs/leaflets within the Library. This information is formally covered in Library Administrative Memo number #38 which is on the Libraries' Web page. Theft warning leaflet. Michael reported on yet another personal property theft on McKeldin 1st floor. Evelyn passed around the "If I were a thief, your belongs would me mine…" notice that we will take the effort to leave on top of unattended personal belongings in the Electronic Research area. Service Plus staff, students, and rovers will attempt to patrol hourly and distribute these notices over the next couple of weeks as a public awareness service. Alan suggested and we agreed that the phrase "Courtesy of the Library" will be added to the next edition of the notice. Service Plus staff on Saturday. Evelyn announced that with the departure of Mary Winker, Service Plus staff will be covering her hours. Cindy will pick up Mary's SIRS related Web work. Staff will be covering Mary's desk hours. Staff will NOT be in the building for all of the Saturday hours that Mary was working; they will be covering her 5 pm-8 pm desk coverage. Special Events room microphone was reported as missing this morning. Signage for Christmas-New Year's Day closure. Debbie recommended and SIRS agreed that it is important that we announce ASAP the fact that we'll be closed the week between Christmas and New Years. Cindy will pass that recommendation on for SIRS. 2. Desk Schedule for exam week and the end of December. We agreed that from December 16-December 24 librarians will provide single coverage on the desk. Shifts will be allocated to the coverage teams in accordance with the formula allocation. We will follow the same pattern as last year: 9 am-9 pm Monday December 16-Thursday December 19; 9 am-4 pm Friday December 20; 10 am-5 pm Saturday the 21st; noon-5 pm Sunday the 22nd; 9 am-5 pm Monday-Tuesday December 23-24. Cindy will draft the shift allocations. 3. Desk Schedule for January. Even though we have not yet seen the January schedule, we agreed to the basic scheduling pattern that we followed last year. Librarians will provide single coverage 9 am-6 pm Monday-Thursday, 9 am-4 pm Friday, and usual hours on weekends. Shifts will be allocated to the coverage teams in accordance with the formula allocation. We agreed that January weekend shifts will count toward the Spring semester weekend shifts/person count. 4. Computers in the stacks. We discussed the workstations that are being installed in the McKeldin stacks. Cindy reported that she spoke with the HelpDesk and found that there are no plans to set up those computers print, and that if we chose to do so, we could recommend that change. After discussing pros and cons, we decided to recommend that those workstations be networked to print down at the 1st floor Service Plus printers. Cindy will pass this recommendation on to Chris Bunn and will try to find out whether Word readers and Notepad are enabled on those computers. SIRS is also concerned about signage and troubleshooting for those workstations. Once the computerscape is stable, Cindy will pursue the matter of signage. 5. November 27th meeting is cancelled.
