SIRS MEETING NOTES

1.	Agenda reviewed and approved
2.	Data gathering project:  Michael presented statistics 
graphs on desk/coverage/traffic during the week days.  More 
attention to responses on the 10 minute help with research 
questions needed.  Graphs show spikes on Mon-Thurs. which 
could be based on the time classes start.  Double coverage 
10-2 for Mon-Thurs. seems necessary.

Michael and Melinda are to be congratulated on a job well done. 

3.	Librarians Desk schedule:  
Shift for finals week, starting from study day – single coverage.

Summer coverage:  library will be open same hours as before.
Mon-Thurs 8:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m.
Sun 2:00-10:00 p.m.
Sat. 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

•	Proposals for desk coverage were discussed:
Mon-Thurs. 9:00-10:00 a.m. – librarian on call
                   10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. – single coverage

Friday -  9:00-10:00 a.m. – on call
             10:00 a.m. -4:00 p.m. – single

Saturday – Proposal 1
10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Sunday – 2:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Proposal # 2
Saturday – 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. or 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Sunday – 2:00-7:00

Another proposal was to have a librarian on call (in the room) 
from 10:00-12:00.
Cindy had reservations about not having a librarian on duty for 
2 hours on Saturday, but agreed to study proposal #2 and SIRS 
will discuss and approve next meeting.  This will mean longer 
hours for student assistants.  Evelyn noted that we have to allow 
30 min. for lunch for the students.  Librarians should take a 
15 min break but remain in the SIRS room where they can be 
easily reached.
