Minutes of meeting
August 30, 2000
Present:   Gerri Foudy, Manny Fantis (student), Jamie Edwards,
Glenn Moreton, Ross Laguerre, Mary Winker, Susanna Van Sant, Eric Lindquist,
Barbara Nail-Chiwetalu, Chris Bunn, Marlene Vikor

1) Identify what SIRS' goals/activities will be for the coming semester.
We brainstormed and agreed to the following goals for the coming semester:
· Survey of EIC machine usage.  We will conduct on designated sampling days.
· Survey our Info Desk colleagues regarding their perceptions of our service and
how we can make things work better.  Conduct a TIP discussion on the matter
· Coordinate identification of and decision making regarding appropriate McKeldin
Reference Collection holdings for "big sets"  (Susanna and Gerri will create the
list for SIRS to work with)  Begin transfers as decisions are made
· Inventory of career materials.  We believe that VICTOR may have McK Ref holdings
for career materials that have disappeared from the collection.  (Glenn will try
to identify holdings).  Based on our findings, we will do appropriate withdrawals.
Mary will explore the possibility of creating some signage/information that will
inform users of our Career Information Collection (Table1) of the resources of
the UM Career Center
· Find a way to improve our Online Reference Shelf  "career" collection .
(Eric will look at the existing Online Reference Shelf and try to find other
possible resources.)
· Reevaluate number and placement of telephones at the Information Desk
· Reevaluate configuration of computer workstations behind the Information Desk

2) Draft survey for desk staff distributed.
Cindy distributed the draft of a survey form that Glenn put together to survey our
Info Desk colleagues regarding their perceptions of our service and how we can
make things work better.
Reading and thinking about this survey form is pre-work for a future meeting.
