SIRS (McKeldin Service Plus Information and Reseach Services Desk Committee) Minutes of meeting September 27, 2000 Present: Chris Bunn, Gerri Foudy (recorder), Glenn Moreton, Barbara Nail-Chiwetalu, Susanna Van Sant, Mary Winker 1) Review final draft of the Service Plus Questionnaire for desk staff. Discussion leader: Glenn Glenn distributed copies of questionnaire. The committee reviewed the questionnaire and make recommendations for changes/additions. We also discussed how and when to distribute and collect the questionnaires. Outcome: Glenn will finalize the questionnaire and distribute copies of it to SIRS' team representatives, Evelyn Yocco, and Cindy Todd on October 20, 2000. The team representatives will then be responsible for making copies of the questionnaires and distributing it to their team; while Evelyn will distribute it to the SIRS staff and students, and Cindy to the "others" who work on the desk. Completed questionnaires will be due on November 3rd, and are to be put in a designated box in the SIRS staff office. Glenn will solicit volunteers and student assistants to help with the data analysis. 2) Should we install viewers for Corel and Microsoft Office on the public workstations? Discussion leader: Chris We discussed the merits of installing Corel and Microsoft Office viewers (users can view documents only, they will not be able to edit) on the public workstations in the Reference area so that students can view and print assignments, syllabi, etc. that are in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Word Perfect, etc. We agreed that this would be a good idea. Outcome: Chris will install the viewers and send out notification to the staff. 3) Should we maintain a handout at the Info. Desk that would explain how/where to get a WAM account and a WAM print account? Discussion leader: Mary We agreed that a one-page handout would be helpful.
