Minutes of meeting
September 29, 1999

Present: Bunn,  Laguerre, Moreton, Nail-Chiwetalu,
Todd,  M. Vikor, Winker

1. McKeldin Reference Special Permission (Circulation) Policy.
Cindy distributed copies of this document.  We identified
information that we need before reviewing this "policy" for
rewriting.  1) Ask  Neil for information on procedures in the
branches for circulating reference material (done).  2) Try to
identify statistics on number of "circulations" that we do from
the desk versus number of pieces lost. 3) See if there is publically
available scanning in the libraries (or  plans for such a service).
4) Get guidelines for circulation of bound periodicals from the stacks (done).

2. McKeldin Library glossy guide.
At User Education's request we reviewed assigned portions of the
glossy guide.  The committee recommended substantial reworking. (done)

3. Service Plus page PROCEDURES section.
The committee discussed its pre-work in evaluating operational
guidelines and other information on the Service Plus page
(http://www.lib.umd.edu/UMCP/SIRS/).
A number of recommendations were made and corrections
suggested. (corrections are done, additions in progress)


The October 13 SIRS meeting has been cancelled.

Next scheduled meetings are October 27, November 10, November 24,
December 8, December 22
