Authority Control
The purpose of authority control work at the University of Maryland Libraries includes:
- Working to control the form of names, uniform titles, series, and subjects as they appear on bibliographic records.
- Creating national authority records for contribution to the Library of Congress Authority File.
- Creating local authority records for contribution to the Masterfile.
- Maintaining the integrity of controlled access points in the University of Maryland
Catalog.
- Making corrections and performing maintenance to bibliographic records.
- Verifying series.
- Participating in
NACO and
SACO programs.
