Set up bibliographic file to work in – this step does not have to be done every time you want to search and work on routine materials
Go to local file manager (use tool bar key with yellow filing cabinet icon, or, on menu bar pull down from "Tools" to Local File manager)
Make sure you are on the Bibliographic tab and press the "Create" button
Type name of file in box labeled "File name" and press "Open" button
Highlight the name of your new file in the list of file names
Press "Set as default" button (red check will move from previous default file to your new file)
Press "Close" button
Enter search keys for batch searching – this does not have to be done in one sitting as you can enter searches, close and open later to enter more search keys before batch searching
From menu bar, pull down "Batch" to "Enter bibliographic search keys"
Make sure the Default Database is WorldCat (:OL)
Type search keys in the Query box pressing "Add" button for each search key
When you have entered all search keys, press "Close" button and answer "yes" to the question "Save changes to C:\OCLCAPPS\CatME\[your file name].bib?"
Process searches
These searches can be scheduled or your can go Online Immediate
To go Online Immediate, from menu bar under Batch, pull down to Online Immediate
You will get a window with your file named in the center (if it is not there, use the pull-down arrow next to the name to find the file in the list of CatME bib files on your workstation) and you will click in the box next to "Process Searches" then click on the button marked "OK"
CatME will automatically log you on, process the searches, and log you off and give you a search completion message.
To see the Search report for that batch search, go to menu bar and pull down "View" to "Bibliographic Search Report" which will list the search responses
To see the records retrieved by that Batch search, go to menu item "Search" and pull down to "Bibliographic Local File…" or press the "Search Bibliographic Local File" (blue & yellow icon) button on the tool bar
The resulting window will have a bar at the top which says "Search Bibliographic Local file: [your file name].bib "
Press the "List All" button and you will see a list of all the records matching your search keys. Double-click on any entry to see the bib record. Use the arrows on your tool bar to move to the full record of the next or the previous title in the list. You can also close the bib record and double-click on another entry in your list of search results.
Process transactions
After deleting inappropriate matches, and editing appropriate matches to carry 949/950s (using constant data files) you can validate & mark the records for update. You can do this for each record or for the whole file when editing is complete, using the tool bar buttons with check mark icon for validate & upward pointing arrow icon for update. (They are also menu choices under "Action")
Go online immediate
Check "Process transactions" box and press "OK" button
CatME will log you on perform transactions then log you off, giving you a completion message. Then you can look at a Transactions report (menu item "View" pulled down to "Bibliographic Transaction report") and/or the updated records in the local bib file, which will show our ownership of the records updated.
