Food and Drink Damage

Books with food or drink damage should be sent to the Preservation Department as soon as possible. Leaving a food or drink-stained book in your area or in the stacks could attract pests or damage the book permanently.

Picture of a food-stained book.

This book had something sticky spilled on it, and now it is a mess. The pages are stuck together and could not be separated without tearing. The spill is obscuring the text so that simply photocopying the pages will not help. This book will have to be replaced.
