Salvaging Materials
If library collections are in danger from a disaster, the library’s Salvage Squad may need to be called. These are staff members who have been trained to salvage wet library materials. Please do not try to deal with wet materials yourself.
The Salvage Squad will bring in supplies and equipment to rescue the library materials. The supplies are kept in McKeldin Library and Hornbake Library. If you are in a branch library and need to begin cleaning up, you can break into the React Pak that has been placed in your library. The React Pak contains some of the supplies needed in the first 20 minutes of a disaster. Ask your supervisor where the React Pak is stored in your library.
Remember: Whenever you break into the React Pak for any reason, report the event to the Preservation Department. Preservation staff will refill and re-seal your React Pak and help you deal with the disaster.
