Bindery, End Processing Team

The Bindery, End Processing Team is responsible for the processing of all serials and monographs binding for the University of Maryland Libraries.

Monographs Processing: Approximately 600 monographs are processed each week. Author/Title/Call number information is taken from the CARL Database and edited into a spine format to create bindery slips. Monographs are then sorted by type of binding desired: standard, recase, flex-s, flex-m, or music.
Serials Processing: Approximately 150-200 serial items are processed each week in the Bindery Unit. This processing consists of entering serials' variable information into the LARS Bindery Database.

Shipments to Commercial Bindery: When processing has been completed, all items are charged to the Unit and packed for shipment to the commercial bindery. These items are returned in two weeks.

Revising and Property Stamping: All items are revised and property stamped upon their return from the commercial bindery. Information on the spine is compared with information on the title page. Serial volumes are checked for correct issue order.

Query: All items are checked by call number and barcode in the on-line catalog.

Query: To determine if items are circulating or non-circulating. Date-Due slips are affixed to items which circulate. Items which do not circulate are stamped "Non-Circulating".
Discharge: Items are checked for security strips and discharged.
