Numerical Data for Setting Preservation Project Priorities

Use

3 = heavily or regularly used

2 = occasionally used

1 = rarely used


Condition

3 = fragile: materials cannot be used without damaging them

2 = vulnerable: conditions of storage/use pose potential damage to materials.

1 = good: materials are in stable condition. Expected use and storage conditions will keep them that way.


Value

3 = important to the UM mission, or rare and of national or international importance

2 = moderate research and monetary value

1 = minor importance to UM mission and common to research libraries


Donor issues

3 = donor has mandated treatment or provided funds for treatment in the gift agreement

2 = either there is no donor agreement or the agreement does not deal with preservation
