Preservation Committee Meeting

March 18, 1999

Present: Alverez, Carignan, Carrico, Chawla, Hahn, Hayes, Hellman, Scott.

2. Announcements

A. Carignan announced the search for Brittle Materials/Reformatting Unit Head has been opened. Search committee members are Beth Alverez, Wilma Bass, Pat Herron, and Carole Bell.

B. Carignan also announced the Preservation Department is preparing a poster session about the department and its activities for the annual meeting of the Maryland Library Association.

C. Hellman reported on conservation expenditures for FY1999 Preservation Priorities. To date, approximately $19,000.00 has been encumbered.

ADJUSTMENTS TO SCORING
Prior to the discussion and scoring of projects, the committee discussed the need for clarification of the scoring system. It was decided to change the definition of value score 3 from "rare and of National or international importance" to include materials of major importance to the mission of the institution. The definition of value score 1 would include materials of minor importance to our mission.
