Preservation Committee Meeting

PRESERVATION COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
March 20, 1998

PRESENT: Yvonne Carignan, Elise Calvi, Ethel Hellman, Doug McElrath, Rebecca Nwude,
Heleni Pedersoli, Courtney Shaw (recording).

Yvonne announced that Preservation Department staff attended a Disaster Preparedness workshop through MLA. Part of the program related to vacuum freeze dry vendors and the problems we had with them.

1. Agenda:
Prepare an agenda for the meeting with the Dean on March 30, 1998 at 1:30 P.M.
We would like to hear his support for conservation, and hear his agenda for the future of preservation here. We will list some of our accomplishments (giving that list to him previously so that he can prepare comments). Some of our accomplishments include preservation awareness (the posters and videos), inviting a speaker from the Commission on Preservation and Access, coming up with initiatives, getting environmental changes, surveying libraries and setting up preservation project criteria, etc.

We also addressed finding out his broadening preservation responsibilities, e.g. Non-Print Library preservation unit, and conservation lab for special collections materials in Hornbake. They have not yet been mentioned in the Hornbake plan, but areas with water and ventilation would be suitable.

2. Priority Setting:
We received two handouts, one set from Archives and Manuscripts priorities and survey sheets, and the newest edition of the Preservation Project Criteria sheet.

We filled in the blanks for Archives and Manuscripts for university publications, the Athletic Legacy Collection, and the Labor Banner conservation.

We then filled in the blanks for the Music Library, including the Tunebooks, ICA/ABA scrapbooks, and the Lowell Mason Books.

We are still missing information on NTL and the Architecture Library.
