Preservation Committee Meeting Minutes

Horizontal Rule

April 27, 2000

  1. Announcements:
  2. Update on searches. Five people will graduate from the Conservator Program in August. Two have already expressed interest in the position; Yvonne will contact the other three.
    The Production Manager position closes on May 12. An MLS is not required for this position.
    The Bindery LT I position is a contract position being funded from L&A money.

    A trip is being planned to the commercial bindery. Committee members are welcome to come along. The bindery contract will go to bid this spring.

    The membership of the Disaster Team needs to be revisited. It was suggested that a presentation be made to library staff showing what is involved. Preservation will work on changes and suggested membership structure and bring the recommendations before the committee.

    The issue of revisiting medium rare was discussed. Karla pointed out the lack of stack space in general. It was decided to put medium rare on the back burner.

  3. Review of Accomplishments:
  4. Yvonne reviewed the past years accomplishments as outlined on the chart "Preservation Projects by Budget FY2000.

  5. Update on preservation priorities:
  6. Special collections needs included the following
    • Memorabilia-action survey
    • Archives/Md. Manuscripts-action survey
    • Md. Maps-condition survey
    • Levitine Collection-condition survey
    • Velum bindings-need to be sent out to have bindings relaxed

    Nonprint Media Services requested 2 pieces of equipment. Yvonne will speak with Allan Rough to discuss his needs further.

    Government Documents-action survey of U.S. Census materials

    Prange Collection-no new requests until the new head of E. Asia arrives.

  7. Latin American Approval Plan:
  8. Karla raised the question of possible preservation issues in regard to the Lt. American Approval Plan. Yvonne will take a look at the books and make a recommendation.

  9. The next meeting
  10. will be June 1 from 1-2:30 in Beth's office. In preparation for that meeting Yvonne will remove projects no longer active from the list. The committee will continue to discuss new initiatives at the meeting.
