Current Practices for Storing Nonprint Accompaniments

Policy for Mixed Media

Accompanying Materials Policy and Cataloging Examples (TSD will use these in creating the item holdings.)

Parameters:

  • Print monographs & serials with nonprint accompaniments.
  • Electronic media with print accompaniments.
  • Nonprint Media Services items with print accompaniments.
  • Exception: accompanying microfiche are packaged with the book which is sent to the appropriate stacks as usual.
  • Unless stated otherwise, default circ status for accompanying CD ROM is:same as the main piece
  • Service points that wish to use special labels to alert users to existence of accompanying pieces will request them from TSD’s End Processing Team and will affix labels themselves.
  • If unsure whether a CD ROM is a true accompaniment, TSD staff will send it to the appropriate original cataloger for a decision. The cataloger will contact the appropriate selector as needed, or Cindy Todd, to assess whether the piece should be returned.

*Notes
/1 Accompanying audio CDs also go to DESK location; same housing as CD ROMs.
/2 Limited retention periodical accompaniments should be sent to the CRPER location, housed in a jewel case if the original case is unavailable
/3 Always non-circ
/4 Acc pieces often come in boxes along with main piece. They are kept in box, but have individual item records. Nonprint media staff uses labels for boxes to explain content.
/5 If main piece is DVD, it and its acc piece (CD ROM or CD) are both housed in 7.5 x 5 plastic container and kept in video cabinet.
/6 Any pamphlets that come with CD ROMs will need to be bound.
