Salvage Squad
CHARGE
The Salvage Squad is charged to provide support for protection and salvage of library materials damaged or endangered by a disaster.
DESCRIPTION
- The Squad is on call to assist in carrying out salvage activities during times of disaster.
- The Squad complements the Preservation Committee as an educational and information-sharing forum for preservation issues, in this case, related to disaster salvage in UM Libraries.
- Squad members participate in training programs and maintain their skills to effectively carry out preventative and salvage measures when collections are threatened or damaged.
- Squad members assist in identifying needed training and supplies, and in reporting potential hazards.
- Squad members will attend at least one training session annually
COMPOSITION
- Volunteers from the faculty and staff, ideally representing branch libraries, special collections, facilities, Nonprint Media Services, and ITD
- Representatives from the Preservation Department, one of whom will be the leader
Ideally, the Squad will have at least 20 members, but it will not be limited to 20 members.
TERMS
The Disaster Squad members will serve as long as they are interested in doing so and can meet the requirements of the Position Description.
